ZEISS Compact Primes

 

The Compact Primes were created in a response to the great increase in demand for cine primes. The housings have an internal mechanical design that could be considered a lightweight analog of the Ultra Primes mechanics, although these lenses does show little geometric distorsion in the wider focal lenghts (Distagons). The Compact Primes cover Full Frame format and compared to higher end Zeiss cine lenses, such as the Ultra Primes (which only cover S35 format), these lenses will not perform at their best at full aperture T2.1. When stopped down 2-3 stops from full aperture, they perform well, with great contrast, although wide open they produce a look similar to vintage lenses, with some flair and spherical aberrations, that can be pleasing under some conditions.
